My makeup bag may look grungy and unkempt, but it’s a treasure trove of essentials. Whether I’m going for a natural look or full-on glam, this bag carries everything I need to keep my makeup game on point, especially when I’m on the go.
Versatility is Key
When I’m traveling, I need variety. You never know how you’ll feel or what look you’ll want to rock, so versatility is key. My go-to look is simple, with warm tones, golds, pinks, and reds that give me a natural, bronzed, and dewy-glow look. I rely heavily on bronzer and highlighter to achieve this, and honestly, who doesn’t? For a touch of nighttime allure, a dark black mascara is my go-to. I also keep a variety of lip colors to elevate my look when needed.

Face
For that radiant glow, I turn to a wintery gold flaked shimmer highlighting stick from Sonia Kashuk. It’s a convenient product that adds just the right amount of shimmer and glow without making me look cakey or ashy, which is essential for medium skin tones.
When I want a more natural look, I opt for a face oil and either a translucent powder or BB cream from Annabelle Cosmetics. Annabelle offers great coverage and shade options for my skin tone. I tend to go lighter on the glow when I choose this route.
Eyebrows
No fuss here. I use the NYX brow brush in ‘espresso,’ and it’s the best, hands down.
Powders
Bronzer: I use whichever bronzer gives me that warm, sun-kissed glow. The brand has faded from the packaging, but it’s an affordable drugstore find.
Blush: A light pink with a touch of shimmer is my everyday go-to. It adds a playful appeal to my look, especially on workdays when I prefer the blush-only style.
Translucent Powder: I swear by Rimmel’s ‘translucent powder’ – it’s the best I’ve ever used, delivering a flawless porcelain skin finish.
Highlighter: My trusty highlighting stick from Sonia Kashuk, with its wintery gold flakes, is always in my bag. It’s convenient and adds just the right amount of shimmer and glow, making sure I avoid any cakey or ashy look, which is crucial for medium skin tones.
Eyes
I’m a mascara enthusiast – it completes my look. I can confidently wear nothing but mascara and feel put together.
For those sultry nighttime looks, I reach for L’Oreal’s voluminous lash mascara in a deep black shade. It really makes my lashes pop.
On lighter days when I aim for a more natural look, I switch between Clinique and Tarte Cosmetics mascaras.
I also carry a small eyeshadow palette and liquid eyeliner for those moments when I want to elevate my look and add a touch of romance and femininity.
I’ve realized it’s time to declutter and minimize my daily and travel makeup collection since I have a go-to look. Understanding your preferences makes it easier to get rid of unnecessary products. While I love experimenting with new items and switching up my looks, I’m adopting a more minimalistic approach. I plan to pay closer attention to my go-to products and limit my purchases to items I frequently use. Keep it simple and stylish (KISS) is my new mantra.
